SUMMARY:Photography Workshop & Snowshoe - February 18th\, 2024
DESCRIPTION:Join Guided By Adventure & Bill Campbell Photography for this unique collaboration. Guided by Adventure will be guiding the snowshoe as you travel as a group through the beautifully scenic Driscoll Ridge trail. Bill will share his thought process & ideas when it comes to wilderness photography while giving hands on instruction throughout the day. He will walk you through visualizing your image\, the basics of composition\, and the proper camera settings to achieve that vision. Bill will run demonstrations as photo opportunities arise throughout the hike\, as well as assist you with input while creating your own images.\nThis workshop is suitable for all levels of photography and camera phones are welcome. Driscoll Ridge trail is a 5 km in and out trail gaining 370 metres of elevation. Prior snowshoeing experience is recommended if you are wanting to take part in this adventure\nActivity Level/Rating – Moderate\, No challenging terrain but the climb is steady. \nMeeting – Meeting at the gas station just up past the jail along hwy 16 east. Meeting at 7:15-7:30\, hitting rd by 7:30am. Ae you confident in your skills to safely get out of the mountains if something were to turn you around?  Mountain Navigation is not only fun to learn but it is also vital for any of your backcountry adventures!\nThis one-day Wilderness Navigation course provides an essential introduction to using and understanding topographic maps and compasses. DESCRIPTION:How does a weekend of snowshoeing\, ice climbing\, good eats\, great people and exploring one of Canadas most beautiful towns sound?! If your answer is that sounds AMAZING\, then this weekend is for you! Arrive Friday afternoon and get settled into your hotel room (shared accommodation) **if you would like to book a private room please request in booking email\, price will be more expensive**\n After checking in it’s time to hit the trails for a late afternoon snowshoe….treats & hot drinks included ; ) Friday evening we hit the town of Jasper for a group dinner.\nSaturday will be ice climbing with Rockaboo Mountain Adventures. This is an intro to ice and will be a wild and fun day. There is no experience required and as stated on their website the fitness level required is – Reasonable fitness (ability to climb a ladder\, go for a short run or hike). After a day of climbing ice (10am – 4pm) we will head back to our hotel for a soak in the hot tub and a beer while overlooking Jasper. For our last night in this gorgeous mountain town we will head out again for a group dinner and hopefully catch some live music or check out some shops and sights.\n  \nWhats Included – \n\nTwo nights shared accommodation at Whistlers Inn\nFull day of Intro to Ice Climbing (all gear included)\nGroup snowshoe\nLunches & snacks both days\nWelcome gift\n\n  \nCarpooling can be arranged. SUMMARY:New Years Eve Snowshoe - December 31st\, 2023
DESCRIPTION:What better way to ring in the new year then by setting some intentions out in nature with good humans\, tired legs and champagne! This trek will be taking place during the day so that you can dance the night away after an adventure amongst friends and snowy places. Livingstone Springs is located just over a hour North of Prince George. This is an in & out snowshoe which is just under 10km return and ascends 208 m of elevation (coming out). We will bound through pillowy snow and make our way down to the warm springs. Once there its time for intentions\, lunch and celebrations!\nActivity Level/Rating – Moderate\, No challenging terrain but may need to take turns breaking trail. \nMeeting – Meeting at Spruceland mall for 8am\, hitting the rd by 8:15am. It is a roughly a one hour drive to trail head. DESCRIPTION:Let us whisk you away for a fun day and evening in Wells\, BC. We will start by heading to Wells early Saturday morning and heading straight out for a snowshoe that will take us bounding through a snowy forest. After our snowshoe we will settle into our shared accommodations at the Willow River Inn.\nOnce we are settled in and warmed up we will wander through the quaint town of Wells for some shopping and exploration. DESCRIPTION:Join us for a beautiful fall wander as we raise money in support of Move4Kids. MOVE 4 Kids is a national fundraising event supporting MOVE by GoodLife Kids – a FREE physical activity and fitness program for youth ages 12 to 21 with autism and intellectual disabilities. \nWe will be meeting at the UNBC Greenway Trails Parking lot located off Tyner Blvd. We will be doing a roughly 2.5 km loop which will take just under an hour. \nPlease dress for rain or shine. Bring a backpack for water\, layers and a headlamp. \nCash donations will be collected at trail head. DESCRIPTION:Join us for our last Raven Lake hike of the season!\nThis beautiful hike is a Prince George classic! In only 4 kms you are into the alpine with views all around. From the stunning alpine meadows we will make our way down to the cabin that is nestled in beside Raven Lake. After lunch we will make our way up to the ridge. from here we travel ridge taking in 360 views and then following the ridge back out to the main trail.\nThis wander starts off gradual up through the forest\, through the alpine meadow and down to the cabin where we will relax in the sunshine and have lunch & rest!\nRated – Moderate ~ this is a 12 km in and out trail. Terrain is mellow accept for one steep section going from cabin to ridge. \nMeeting – Meeting outside of Tim hortons on Massey Dr. (same parking lot as Princess Auto) between 6:45am – 7am\, hitting the rd by 7am. Drive to trailhead is around 2 hours. Goal is to be back in PG by around 5pm\, depending on trail condition\, group pace & how long we want enjoy the day for! From meeting point guests can carpool or follow out in their own vehicles. DESCRIPTION:Join us for the first our last hike of the season & the first day of fall. We will be heading back to beautiful Torpy Mountain\, hiking a few kms more than the first trip\, which will bring us the the ridge above Torpy.\nCome enjoy this wild Northern BC Mountain\, with brilliant terrain…alpine meadows & an alpine lake. We will follow an in and out trail and cover roughly 12 km total. The elevation gain will be around 730 meters.\nDuring guided hikes your hiking guide sets the pace\, prompts scheduled breaks for snacks\, water & beauty appreciation moments. Your guide will also cover local history\, flora\, fauna\, animal habitats and go over animal awareness as well as hiking/route finding skills. \nMeeting – Meeting outside of Tim hortons on Massey Dr. (same parking lot as Princess Auto) between 6:45am – 7am\, hitting the rd by 7am. DESCRIPTION:This two hour workshop will take you from “Ive never been on my board before ” to feeling calm and confident cruising through flat water. Even if you have had some time on your board this is a great way to improve upon your skills and learn how to make the most out of your paddling adventures!\nEvery workshop is lead by certified Stand Up Paddling Instructors & starts with a dry land portion. In this section the instructors will go over some SUP history\, board terminology\, safety\, launching\, and getting on and off the board. They also will cover paddling strokes\, proper stance and trip planning. The workshop is always finished with a short lake cruise to allow some time to play around & test out your new skills!\nWe will be launching at one of our favourite lakes\, Eena Lake. Eena Lake is a half hour North West of town.\nMeeting – Meeting at Eena lake around 5:30pm-   workshop starts at 6pm. DESCRIPTION:Join us for a mid week hike up to Raven Lake! Week day hikes are our favourite because we usually have the entire mountain to our selves!\nThis beautiful hike is a Prince George classic! In only 4 kms you are into the alpine with views all around. From the stunning alpine meadows we will make our way down to the cabin that is nestled in beside Raven Lake. After lunch we will make our way up to the ridge. from here we travel ridge taking in 360 views and then following the ridge back out to the main trail.\nThis wander starts off gradual up through the forest\, through the alpine meadow and down to the cabin where we will relax in the sunshine and have lunch & rest!\nRated – Moderate ~ this is a 12 km in and out trail. Terrain is mellow accept for one steep section going from cabin to ridge. \nMeeting – Meeting outside of Tim hortons on Massey Dr. (same parking lot as Princess Auto) between 6:45am – 7am\, hitting the rd by 7am. Drive to trailhead is around 2 hours. Goal is to be back in PG by around 5pm\, depending on trail condition\, group pace & how long we want enjoy the day for! From meeting point guests can carpool or follow out in their own vehicles. Once camp is set up you will enjoy some delicious appetizers and refreshments. Learn about campsite selection\, setting up a camp kitchen and settle into that post hike bliss. The next day your guides will take you on an off trail adventure exploring the nearby ranges\, enjoy some down time and climb to Fang summit after dinner.\nCome enjoy this wild Northern mountain\, with two nights spent beside the meadows\, overlooking an alpine lake. This will be one of our most challenging trips as there is difficult terrain and steep parts to climb so rest assured your guides will be route finding & assisting you through every tricky moment of this ascent. This hike takes us through cedar forest\, boulder fields\, steep mountainside trecking and past two cave systems.The wildlife is all around\, you’ll hear marmots echoing behind mossy boulders\, many types of birds and perhaps even see the grizzly that roams Fang Mountain.The first day our hike to camp is 5 km and we will climb almost 1000 metres of elevation. Meghan is an ACMG Hiking Guide and will be guiding the hiking and feeding everyone throughout the weekend. The weekend will be spent up at Raven Lake. \nThe Raven Lake trail is situated within the Sugarbowl – Grizzly Den Provincial Park. This backcountry gem is only a two hour drive from Prince George yet it is wild\, rugged and full of adventure. The hike in is 5 km with roughly a 500 metre gain in elevation. The start of km 4 means the climb is complete and you break through the trees into a stunning alpine meadow. It’s only 1 km left to make your way down to the camp site\, that is nestled beside Raven Lake. \nThe weekend will be filled with guided Yoga practices\, meditation\, breath work\, movement & nourishing meals. This gorgeous alpine setting is the perfect place to reconnect with yourself\, nature & with community found in group practice.\nActivity Level/Rating – Moderate\, we recommend you have completed some hikes with roughly the same distance and elevation prior to coming on this adventure. While the creek is still too high to take on Fang Mountain trail we will view the backside of Fang via the Torpy trail.\nCome enjoy this wild Northern BC Mountain\, with brilliant terrain…alpine meadows & alpine lakes. This hike is a more mellow journey up Fang Mountain then its well know sister trail. We will follow an in and out trail and cover roughly 10 km total. The elevation gain will be around 730 meters.\nDuring guided hikes your hiking guide sets the pace\, prompts scheduled breaks for snacks\, water & beauty appreciation moments. DESCRIPTION:Join us for an intro to outdoor skills workshop. These courses will mainly be run as custom/private events so this is your chance to jump into a scheduled workshop. These sessions are for everyone! Feeling safe\, having fun\, learning new things\, you don’t need to be a survivalist to want to gain some sweet new outdoors skills! From backcountry camping\, hunting\, survival\, recreational outings…..there is something for everyone to gain from attending these workshops.\nThis specific workshop will focus on two components –  \n\nFire building. This portion includes a walk to our site in which we will talk about natural tinder options\, different tree species\, gathering techies etc. Once we get to the fire making location we will go over proper site selection\, how to build a fire & how to use a fire steel & flint. Everyone will get hands on with collecting their fire building components\, building the fire and using a flint.\nBear awareness. Since it is the time of year when bears are waking up we thought this would be a useful addition to this workshop. We will go over looking for bear signs\, bear behaviour\, how to say safe in the backcountry & everyone will get to practice deploying a bear spray.\n\nThis workshop be be roughly three hours in length & located within Prince George. DESCRIPTION:Foraged in Winter: Forest Medicines\, Teas and Treats \nWinter is not over yet! \nCome out for an afternoon snowshoe and learn about our local plants that can be gathered in winter to make medicines\, teas\, and treats. Try some conifer needle teas that are high in Vitamin C and cookies that are infused with the flavor of the forest! \nYou will have a chance to gather some tree parts and other herbs to bring home for your pantry and medicine cabinet. You will be provided with How-To’s\, recipes\, and other information to help identify local wild plants/trees\, their benefits\, and how to process them into medicines\, teas and treats. \nThis will be a 6 km round trip hike on an old logging road. Only a 15 minute drive from downtown Prince George! As we will be stepping off the road from time to time\, it would be ideal to wear snowshoes. \nThis workshop will be weather dependent. SUMMARY:Murray Cabin Snowshoe - January 28th\, 2023
DESCRIPTION:The Murray/Yellowhawk trail has to be one of our favourite summer hiking destinations and so not surprisingly the winter route is one of our most loved snowshoes. This adventure will take you to the Cariboos\, just outside of Wells\, BC. This snowshoe starts off with a short but steep incline followed by a more relaxed\, gradual climb. This trail has lots of flat breaks through meadows & beautiful scenery all around. The goal for the day is to reach the saddle that holds the tiny backcountry cabin\, Murray Cabin. We will stoke the fire at the cabin\, have lunch\, warm beverages and relax before our journey back to the trail head. This adventure is roughly 9km total\, along an in & out trail\, gaining 390 metres of elevation.\nActivity Level/Rating – Moderate\, some challenging snowshoe terrain which you will be guided through\, lots of flat sections and short steep sections. Will be a longer day so experience snowshoeing through deep powder is recommended. \nMeeting – Meeting at Parkwood mall out front the second cup at 6:30am\, hitting the road by 6:45am. We will be carpooling from this location. carpool fee to be given to driver is $20 per guest.  It is roughly a two hour drive to trail head. This snowshoe is just under 5km return and ascends 390 m of elevation. This adventure is a great option for anyone looking to take their snowshoeing from flat trails to something more adventurous!\nActivity Level/Rating – Moderate\, No challenging terrain but the climb is steady. \nMeeting – Meeting at parkwood mall out front the Second Cup at 8am\, hitting the rd by 8:15am. SUMMARY:Snowshoe Adventure Day - December 10th
DESCRIPTION:Tis the season for snowy wanders\, good humans and Christmas cheer. Join us for this small group\, snowshoe based adventure located in Wells\, BC. This trip includes a guided snowshoe\, crafting with cedar boughs & dinner in a snow globe!\nActivity Level/Rating – Easy/Moderate\, No challenging terrain but the climb is steady and may be off trail for parts \nItinerary – \nWe will leave Prince George around 8am and make the trip to Wells\, BC which is just over a two hour drive. Once there we will be heading straight to our snowshoe to stretch our legs and take in some fresh mountain air. Pack a warm and filling lunch\, we will be enjoying a break and lunch mid snowshoe. The snowshoe is rated easy/moderate with lots of flat terrain and some gradual incline\, it will be roughly 4 kms and take 1.5-2 hours. \nAfter our snowshoe & lunch among the snowy forest pillows we will head back into Wells to the Frog on the Bog for some Cedar bough crafting. You could also get some Christmas shopping done while visiting this unique local shop : ) \nThe day will finish with a final visit at 4pm to The Jack O Clubs Pub. Once there we will enjoy a delicious dinner inside of their snow-globe! \nBellies full and legs tired its time to say goodbye and make our journeys back to Prince George. \n  \nMeeting – Meeting at Parkwood Mall out front the Second Cup at 7:45am\, hitting the rd by 8:00am. It is a roughly a two hour drive to trail head. DESCRIPTION:Its time to get ready for an amazing Winter season! Do you snowshoe up Driscoll Ridge\, Viking Ridge…Sugarbowl? Then this course is for you!\nAST 1 – Do you venture out of bounds\, off the trail or into the backcountry? An AST1 is the place to start. With an AST1 you will learn how to recognize avalanche terrain and how to companion rescue. Day 1 of course is classroom based and day 2 will be field based within the Prince George area.\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhat you will learn: \n\n\nAvalanche formation and release. \n\n\nHow to identify avalanche terrain. \n\n\nThe basics of trip planning. \n\n\nOptimal use of tools and resources like the avalanche forecasts to mitigate your avalanche risk. \n\n\nUsing appropriate travel techniques in avalanche terrain. \n\n\nIntro to companion rescue. \n\n\n\nYour instructor for this course is Dave McAleney and his company is Highmark Avalanche Safety.\nDave McAleney grew up in the mountains of the North Rockies\, and has a passion for sharing the wilderness with people and helping them explore safely and responsibly. A winter recreation enthusiast for most of his life\, he volunteers with Search and Rescue on the Avalanche Team\, and has worked with Avalanche Canada’s North Rockies Field Team\, as well as other private and volunteer groups as an avalanche tech and educator. Dave sleds well\, skis poorly\, and climbs with enthusiasm. Highmark Avalanche Safety was born from a need for local\, professional education services based in the North for Northern people. With the increasing popularity of snowmobiling as well as all types of winter recreation in the mountains\, the demand for courses and instruction grew also. Highmark has grown out of that demand for education and helps people go harder\, do more\, and be safer in the mountains. \n\n\n\nFor the course it is recommended that you have your own snowshoes\, poles and avalanche gear. if you do not have your own avalanche gear there will be 4 rental sets as well as a gear info night and best sets to purchase locally. This course is great for all levels. \nCourse fee minus transactions fees are refundable up until November 15th at which time the course is non refundable. Full payment required at time of purchase.
