DESCRIPTION:Join us in Prince George for this in person bear awareness training. This training provides essential knowledge and practical skills to help you stay safe in bear country. Learn how to identify black and grizzly bears\, understand their behavior\, avoid encounters\, and respond effectively if one occurs. Ideal for hikers\, campers\, and outdoor enthusiasts\, this course emphasizes safety\, prevention\, and respectful coexistence with wildlife.\nThese sessions include conversation\, encourage participants stories\, experiences and questions. Each participant will also get the opportunity to learn how to use and deploy bear spray using our inert training spray.\nThis session will be held outside at a park within the city limits of Prince George. This is open to all levels and you are welcome to come with your questions on SUP specific skills & anything you would like to work on. Learn from friendly and knowledgeable ACMG Guides:\n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nClimbing Techniques\n\n\nBelaying and Rope Management\n\n\nRappelling\n\n\nTop Rope Anchors\n\n\nGuide Book Navigation\n\n\nHazard recognition\n\n\nThis course is designed for beginners and is aimed at having a fun and safe introduction while building the required skills necessary to go Top-Rope Climbing on your own with your friends or family.\nTopics covered on this course include hazard management at the crag\, the basics of movement on outdoor rock\, effective belay techniques in an outdoor environment\, top rope rock climbing belays and lowers.\nDeveloping these skills early on will allow you to progress at a quicker rate and you will find climbing much more rewarding. You will be taught and coached by an ACMG guide delivering our well-established curriculum. Like any technical sport\, learning the proper skills and techniques early on will ensure you develop good habits and have endless opportunities to continue to progress in the exciting sport of outdoor rock climbing. \nThe focus of this course is having fun while learning and getting mileage on the rock with the help of ACMG guides! Ae you confident in your skills to safely get out of the mountains if something were to turn you around?  Mountain Navigation is not only fun to learn but it is also vital for any of your backcountry adventures!\nThis one-day Wilderness Navigation course provides an essential introduction to using and understanding topographic maps and compasses. The skills learned on this course will improve trip planning processes\, provide a basis for use & navigation by GPS\, and provide fundamental knowledge for those exploring new terrain or areas with poor visibility.\n\n\nCurriculum\n\n\nInterpreting features on topographic maps\nCompass use and features\nScale\, grid reference and UTM\nRelating features on a map to features on the ground\nTaking bearings in the field and on the map\nRe-sectioning to determine location\nTravelling on bearings through terrain\nLearn about pacing\n\n———————————————————————————-\n\nIncluded\n\n\n1-Day of instruction with an ACMG-certified guide\nUse of compass\nStudent work book\n\n\nNot Included\n\n\nTransport to and from the meeting point\nFood\nClothing\nPersonal equipment (including snowshoes if there is snow on the ground at the time of your course)\n\n  \n\n\nTHE IMPORTANT DETAILS:\n\n\n\n\nSession dates: February 11th\, 2024 & March 10th\, 2024 There will be two\, one day sessions offered\, register for whichever session works best for you. SUMMARY:Outdoor Skills Workshop - May 14th
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an intro to outdoor skills workshop. These courses will mainly be run as custom/private events so this is your chance to jump into a scheduled workshop. These sessions are for everyone! Feeling safe\, having fun\, learning new things\, you don’t need to be a survivalist to want to gain some sweet new outdoors skills! From backcountry camping\, hunting\, survival\, recreational outings…..there is something for everyone to gain from attending these workshops.\nThis specific workshop will focus on two components –  \n\nFire building. This portion includes a walk to our site in which we will talk about natural tinder options\, different tree species\, gathering techies etc. Once we get to the fire making location we will go over proper site selection\, how to build a fire & how to use a fire steel & flint. Everyone will get hands on with collecting their fire building components\, building the fire and using a flint.\nBear awareness. Since it is the time of year when bears are waking up we thought this would be a useful addition to this workshop. We will go over looking for bear signs\, bear behaviour\, how to say safe in the backcountry & everyone will get to practice deploying a bear spray.\n\nThis workshop be be roughly three hours in length & located within Prince George. Exact location and gear list will be emailed to everyone attending. \n  \n  \n
